Ryan Reynolds, the famous actor, did not actually pitch the joke that caused a stir during a recent episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL). Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, made an appearance on the SNL50: The Anniversary Special, which took place in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 16. During a sketch where audience questions were being answered by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, Reynolds jokingly alluded to the ongoing legal battle involving himself, Lively, and Justin Baldoni.

The Deadpool actor was asked how things were going, to which he responded with a witty remark, “Great. Why? What have you heard?” This joke seemingly referred to the attention surrounding the lawsuits between the three celebrities. The joke caught the attention of many online, sparking speculations about its origin and delivery.
Longtime SNL crew member, Wally Feresten, known as “Cue Card Wally,” provided some behind-the-scenes insight on an Australian radio show, Fifi, Fev & Nick. Feresten revealed that Reynolds had a different line during rehearsals but pitched the final joke himself. However, SNL denied this claim, clarifying that Feresten is not involved in the show’s creative process, and a source close to Reynolds stated that the opening joke was actually pitched by SNL and not changed.
Following the airing of the episode, Bryan Freedman, a lawyer representing Baldoni, criticized Reynolds for making the joke amid their legal dispute, expressing surprise at the insensitivity of the comment. Lively previously sued Baldoni for sexual harassment, while he retaliated with a $400 million lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds for defamation and extortion, which Lively’s legal team deemed as baseless.
Despite the ongoing legal battles, Lively chose to step back into the spotlight, joining Reynolds at the SNL event to support their friends and the show. An insider shared that Lively felt both nervous and excited to be out among familiar faces and friends, despite the challenging circumstances surrounding the lawsuits.
The unfolding drama between Lively, Reynolds, and Baldoni continues to captivate fans and followers, with each new development adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing legal saga. As the public awaits further news on the lawsuits and the involved parties’ responses, the dynamic between the three celebrities remains a topic of interest and speculation in the entertainment industry. With emotions running high and stakes at an all-time premium, the unfolding events between these Hollywood figures are sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
