Reports suggested that the boy had attempted to traverse the lake on foot in a bid to reach home faster, only to find himself trapped as the ice began to crack beneath him.

Weather conditions at the time added to the perilous situation, with partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 49 degrees. Despite the lake being only 6 feet deep, the icy water quickly sapped the boy’s strength, leaving him stranded in the freezing waters.

Patrolman Dave Brosonski emerged as the first responder at the scene, with his quick thinking and training proving crucial in the successful rescue operation. As an instructor at the Monmouth County Police Academy for water rescue, Brosonski wasted no time in springing into action to reach the boy, who was stranded in the middle of the lake.
