Comedian and actor D.L. Hughley has called out rapper Snoop Dogg for the way he handled the backlash following his performance at the 2025 presidential inauguration. Speaking on his podcast, The D.L. Hughley Show, Hughley expressed disappointment in Snoop’s decision to entertain at the Crypto Ball in Washington, D.C. on January 17.

Hughley highlighted the importance of unity within the community, suggesting that Snoop’s actions went against the solidarity they should uphold. He questioned why Snoop chose to entertain a figure who has been detrimental to their community, rather than standing together to protect one another.

Snoop Dogg, along with fellow rappers Soulja Boy and Rick Ross, performed at the Crypto Ball, where President Donald J. Trump and his administration were in attendance. The event reportedly earned the first family significant revenue. Following the performance, Snoop experienced a significant drop in his Instagram and X followers.
In response to the backlash, Snoop Dogg took to Instagram to address the negativity he received, reaffirming his identity as a Black man. Despite the criticism, he expressed his commitment to staying true to himself and rising above hate with success and love, as stated on the R&B Money Podcast.
Contrary to Snoop’s response, D.L. Hughley suggested that the rapper may be grappling with internal conflicts, especially considering his previous stance on Black artists performing for Trump in 2017. Hughley urged Snoop to reflect on the changes within himself over the years and engage in introspection.
Hughley emphasised that the Black community has been targeted by Trump’s policies, pointing out the detrimental impact on issues such as affirmative action and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. He highlighted that the real threat to the community comes from those in power who push legislation that undermines progress.
With a majority of Black voters supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Hughley indicated that Snoop should have been more mindful of the community’s values and concerns. He explained that criticism of Snoop’s actions did not equate to an attack on him personally but rather a response to his choices.
Hughley concluded by underscoring the importance of accountability and understanding the repercussions of one’s actions. He encouraged Snoop to acknowledge the disappointment felt by his fans, who held a certain perception of him. Ultimately, Hughley’s criticisms serve as a reminder of the responsibility artists have in being aligned with the values of their community.
As the conversation continues surrounding Snoop Dogg’s inauguration performance, it prompts reflection on the complexities of navigating personal beliefs and public image within the entertainment industry.
